"Life Forces" Awareness through Art
Heritage Hall has the honor of hosting, “Life Forces”, an exhibit by Dr. Ernie Sherow which will be open until Friday, November 10. During last night’s opening reception, we were proud to facilitate a space where community members could come together to recognize and discuss not only the emotional facts of the human condition through art, but also the specific challenge of women’s experiences of violence across the world. In the words of Dr. Sherow, “As an artist/researcher/educator, I have always tackled social issues. My objective is to engage society in conversations that challenge and promote change.”
While Dr. Sherow’s work addresses very real issues, her rendering of the human figure using light, color, composition, and scale further connects the viewer to that reality. Her pieces are beautiful and effective, drawing us to a place of action on behalf of those depicted through the hand of an artist. As Heritage Hall’s Director, Valerie White, stated in a recent article in the Daily Home written by Laci Braswell, “This is what museums are for, to spark conversation on subjects that deserve our attention and support.” Dr. Sherow’s talent, passion, and striking works create a platform for approaching social issues of our time and, in doing so, form a connection between art, social justice, and our community.
