Connie Barnes
Connie Barnes was a part of the Alabama Institute for the Deaf, as a teacher and an interpreter. She served as an interpreter for the Deaf for many years for many audiences in the community, including the First Methodist Church of Talladega.
She was a founding member of the Gamma Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. The mission statement for the professional society is “The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.”
She was a member of ‘Sarah’s girls’ and loved the arts, from painting to music to the written word. Many of her paintings draw on her experiences and love of travel across the world. Her work can be found in private collections and the Permanent Collection of Heritage Hall Museum.
